A source close to Yahoo says the “buzz is deafening” that Google’s chief business officer,?Nikesh Arora, is on “the very short list” of candidates to become CEO of Yahoo.

A second source, friendly with Yahoo board members and Google executives, tells us: “Yes, he is on the shortlist from what I’ve heard.”

We have been unable to confirm this news with a first-hand source this morning, so treat it as a pervasive rumor making the rounds at Yahoo.

The other name still being floated in these circles is David Kenny, Yahoo board member and former president of Akamai.

It has been reported that Yahoo’s board is planning to complete some sort of large financial transaction before it begins looking for a CEO. ?We have heard from sources close to this situation that this is no longer true, and that the board is actively looking for a new leader of the company.

Arora is Google’s top salesman, and Google sales have been very, very good under his direction.??He is considered to be systematic and analytically driven. When he ran Google’s European business, he hired a lot of?left-brained McKinsey types.

Arora was also mentioned as a possible Yahoo CEO back in April, while Carol Bartz was still in charge.?

Arora is an excellent golfer.

We reached out to Google and Yahoo PR for this story. Yahoo declined to comment.?A Google PR rep said: “Nothing to report here.?Nikesh is still happy at Google.”

The serene waters of sky pond, one of the most popular tourist attractions in northeastern Asia, belie the fact that it is nestled inside the crater of one of the region?s most dangerous volcanoes?a peak known as Changbai Mountain to the Chinese and Mount Paektu to Koreans. That 2,744-meter-tall volcano, which straddles the border between China and North Korea, last erupted in 1903 but has displayed signs of awakening in recent years.

The lake is the source of three Asian rivers that, during an eruption, could serve as conduits for lahars?devastating blends of hot ash, mud and water that have the consistency of wet cement. A major eruption could send such flows racing down the volcano?s slopes, threatening hundreds of thousands of people.
